Anti PETA

Description

I do not like PETA, nor do I support them. I have always been an animal lover, and I have always been against animal cruelty. So, I will admit that back when I was eleven and first heard of the organization I was glad to find a group that fought against animal cruelty. I ordered some stuff from them, and even began spreading word about their organization to my school mates. However, even back when I was that age I liked to do research into what I support. When I started doing this for PETA, well, I was horrified by what I found. I re-researched many things I found to make sure what was true and what was false, I did this for months. However, I stopped supporting the organization when I first found a horrifying piece on what happens behind the scenes.

After months of research, I dropped even mentioning PETA to friends and other animal lovers. I threw out what I had of theirs, and started telling others of what I had learned. I'm ashamed I even supported them at one point. While PETA looks promising to animal lovers on the outside, on the inside it's a contradiction to everything you may support. A lot of people will say 'Oh but PETA has done so much for animals, they fight so hard for them."

But they don't. Yes, they do bring attention to things such as seal clubbing, fur coats, and other things such as that. But all they do is bring attention to those situations by violence or in violent ways. They show terrible images, and while I agree that will get the people who "won't believe it unless they see it"s attention and draw their attention to these situations. However how they handle and produce these messages is bad. They use childish antics(such as a child throwing a fit when they do not get their way) and forceful messages to get their point across. It grabs the peoples attention, but how long will it stay? When a child is throwing a fit, you give them your attention right away, however when the fit continues it gets annoying and you just want to walk away and forget about it all together.

I do believe educating people on these situations is good, but you can do it in a more professional manner where people will actually listen to your reasons and try to understand them. Words given in a manner where the person speaking is calm, and professional about it and showing their facts in words and showing their reasoning behind this, will stay with a person more than words or images thrown at them or forced upon them.

PETA also tries to force vegetarianism and vegan-ism on people. If one wants to be a vegetarian or vegan, that is fine, however forcing one's thoughts on people is wrong. You can give them your facts about why you think they should become either, but not forcing them. Especially little children. PETA would often wait outside preschools or elementary schools for children to get out, then they would hand out pictures to the children with the cover being either a mother figure brutally killing an animal, or a father doing the same. Then the title would be 'your mommy kills animals'. Scaring children just to get them to become vegetarians or vegans is wrong, because they will be misinformed and can end up getting very sick.

Not to mention, I also found out that for some of the videos they have that show the abuse animals suffer in certain situations. They actually recreate themselves. Meaning they kill and hurt animals just to prove their point. They also rescue animals from other shelters promising not to kill them, however they only give them three to four days to be adopted before they put them to sleep. That time limit is less than normal shelters(which is two weeks or longer)

About euthanization, PETA will euthanize pretty much anything. They think that euthanization is the first and only option for any animal. When a baby bear lost it's mother, it was going to go be raised in a zoo, PETA got upset about this and wanted the baby bear to be euthanized instead.
They also believe that people should not have any animal as pets, that anyone who has an animal is an animal abuser(or a slave driver). Even if that owner would rather go without food themselves just to make sure their companion has food and is well taken care of. Instead of working with an animal that has behavior problems, they think the animal needs to be put down. Pit bulls too, they believe that any pit bull should be put to sleep because they are aggressive dogs, the leader of PETA actually stated that Pit bulls are man made dogs only made for fighting. That even puppies, or older dogs who have never had an aggressive incident should be put to sleep, because that breed is born vicious. It's rather ridiculous. In my honest opinion, I think an animal should only be euthanized as a last option, not a first. If the animal is hurt beyond recovery, or if it has a problem where it can not be helped and will only be in pain. Then I agree that euthanization would be an option.

Also PETA is there for the animals? Where were they for the abandoned and hurt dogs in Haiti or in any other place that has suffered? There were a lot more animal societies, out there helping the people get their companions medical care and food. But I have yet to come across a report about PETA being there or anywhere else for that matter.

These are the reason I do not like PETA, nor will I ever support them. If you like them, and support what they do. Then by all means, keep supporting them. However, I ask anyone before joining or supporting any organization, whether it be animal rights or not. Do research on the group before you support them, the good and the bad, find it all out before you make your decision.

Edit: Here is a video covering the second chance given to the dogs from the Micheal Vick case, the dogs that PETA said were vicious and had no way of recovering, that deserved to be put to sleep.
