Anti PETA by piratekit Anti PETA by piratekit
I do not like PETA, nor do I support them. I have always been an animal lover, and I have always been against animal cruelty. So, I will admit that back when I was eleven and first heard of the organization I was glad to find a group that fought against animal cruelty. I ordered some stuff from them, and even began spreading word about their organization to my school mates. However, even back when I was that age I liked to do research into what I support. When I started doing this for PETA, well, I was horrified by what I found. I re-researched many things I found to make sure what was true and what was false, I did this for months. However, I stopped supporting the organization when I first found a horrifying piece on what happens behind the scenes.

After months of research, I dropped even mentioning PETA to friends and other animal lovers. I threw out what I had of theirs, and started telling others of what I had learned. I'm ashamed I even supported them at one point. While PETA looks promising to animal lovers on the outside, on the inside it's a contradiction to everything you may support. A lot of people will say 'Oh but PETA has done so much for animals, they fight so hard for them."

But they don't. Yes, they do bring attention to things such as seal clubbing, fur coats, and other things such as that. But all they do is bring attention to those situations by violence or in violent ways. They show terrible images, and while I agree that will get the people who "won't believe it unless they see it"s attention and draw their attention to these situations. However how they handle and produce these messages is bad. They use childish antics(such as a child throwing a fit when they do not get their way) and forceful messages to get their point across. It grabs the peoples attention, but how long will it stay? When a child is throwing a fit, you give them your attention right away, however when the fit continues it gets annoying and you just want to walk away and forget about it all together.

I do believe educating people on these situations is good, but you can do it in a more professional manner where people will actually listen to your reasons and try to understand them. Words given in a manner where the person speaking is calm, and professional about it and showing their facts in words and showing their reasoning behind this, will stay with a person more than words or images thrown at them or forced upon them.

PETA also tries to force vegetarianism and vegan-ism on people. If one wants to be a vegetarian or vegan, that is fine, however forcing one's thoughts on people is wrong. You can give them your facts about why you think they should become either, but not forcing them. Especially little children. PETA would often wait outside preschools or elementary schools for children to get out, then they would hand out pictures to the children with the cover being either a mother figure brutally killing an animal, or a father doing the same. Then the title would be 'your mommy kills animals'. Scaring children just to get them to become vegetarians or vegans is wrong, because they will be misinformed and can end up getting very sick.

Not to mention, I also found out that for some of the videos they have that show the abuse animals suffer in certain situations. They actually recreate themselves. Meaning they kill and hurt animals just to prove their point. They also rescue animals from other shelters promising not to kill them, however they only give them three to four days to be adopted before they put them to sleep. That time limit is less than normal shelters(which is two weeks or longer)

About euthanization, PETA will euthanize pretty much anything. They think that euthanization is the first and only option for any animal. When a baby bear lost it's mother, it was going to go be raised in a zoo, PETA got upset about this and wanted the baby bear to be euthanized instead.
They also believe that people should not have any animal as pets, that anyone who has an animal is an animal abuser(or a slave driver). Even if that owner would rather go without food themselves just to make sure their companion has food and is well taken care of. Instead of working with an animal that has behavior problems, they think the animal needs to be put down. Pit bulls too, they believe that any pit bull should be put to sleep because they are aggressive dogs, the leader of PETA actually stated that Pit bulls are man made dogs only made for fighting. That even puppies, or older dogs who have never had an aggressive incident should be put to sleep, because that breed is born vicious. It's rather ridiculous. In my honest opinion, I think an animal should only be euthanized as a last option, not a first. If the animal is hurt beyond recovery, or if it has a problem where it can not be helped and will only be in pain. Then I agree that euthanization would be an option.

Also PETA is there for the animals? Where were they for the abandoned and hurt dogs in Haiti or in any other place that has suffered? There were a lot more animal societies, out there helping the people get their companions medical care and food. But I have yet to come across a report about PETA being there or anywhere else for that matter.

These are the reason I do not like PETA, nor will I ever support them. If you like them, and support what they do. Then by all means, keep supporting them. However, I ask anyone before joining or supporting any organization, whether it be animal rights or not. Do research on the group before you support them, the good and the bad, find it all out before you make your decision.

Edit: Here is a video covering the second chance given to the dogs from the Micheal Vick case, the dogs that PETA said were vicious and had no way of recovering, that deserved to be put to sleep.

Haha...I got a lot of people from where I live to do an anti-peTA protest (I'm visiting my friend in America), so technicaly, it was yesterday (6/4/2010). A bunch of parents and children were throwing in peTA gear that they bought for the occassion, and some one videotaped it. It was awesome. My friends and I got a bunch of those, "Your Mother Kills Animals" thingies and threw them in a bonfire....Which was at the center of it. Actually some peTA memebers came and tried to stop us....We had cops standing at very point where there was a bunch of people, that way no one would get hurt by the peTA members. I agree with your oppinion completely.

Ugh. I'm a vegetarian, and PETA disgusts me so ):

Whenever someone's talking about PETA within my hearing range about them 'doing good work' and 'wanting to join them', I usually will hop into the conversation. It usually ends up with said person turning to a different organisation instead. The WSPA does pretty good work - they were actually on-site after the Haiti disaster. I support them myself, as well as a Netherlands-based organisation who focuses on the animal suffering caused in my own country - they managed to change the dutch word for factory farming; from bio-industry to meat or cattle industry. Too many people thinking they were buying good stuff, due to organic food being called 'biologisch' here.

It's a very good organisation, who does go to the streets to protest, yes, but never do anything illegal or shocking. Many of their actions actually paid off - male piglets are no longer castrated without anaesthesia here, and more often than not they're not castrated as all. They work using radio adverts (very good ones!), their website, several newsletters such as the Wakkere Winkelaar (Awake Shopper) in which all the animal-friendly bargains of the week in all the big supermarkets here are shown, which was also used for a 'nomination' of the least animal friendly supermarket chain. It was done in a very fair way - the supermarkets were given six months to alter the way they offered their customers bargains and such. The C1000 refused to pay any attention to the campaign and continued to offer factory-farmed meat for ridiculously low bargain prices. Needless to say, they have never appeared in the Wakkere Winkelaar :\

Oh well. PETA should cease to excist. They are giving all of the animal rights activists a horrible name. I've lost count of the amount of times I've been called a PETA-whore just for being a vegetarian and bursting some bubbles here and there - sorry preppy girls, the meat industry is not full of happy happy joy joy, rainbows and glitter.

Though I occasionally have a vegan day, I'm probably never going to be an actual vegan. I just love a good omelet full of crispy greens to go with my dinner. All my dairy products and eggs come from local farmers anyway - all organic.

 I just wish celebrities will research them before joining or supporting them. It's rather irritating because PETA gets all of this attention, when there are more deserving pet societies that actually help animals that need the publicity.

hhmm, gotta agree. PETA was probably a brainchild of someone who was sickened by what they saw happening to animals and actually thought up a good idea that has now become so perverted that it's more fascistic than the originator ever wished for. And you are right on the kid thing. I think it's actually rather humorous the things they do (not the kid thing) because by going to the extremes that they do....they actually hurt their cause and provide a distinct way for ppl to polarize against them. Rather foolish. :o

Good thing my mother and brother rescued this kitten, cause if P.E.T.A. did, it wouldn't be in a good home.

ah yes P.E.T.A. they one painted spots on seals "ruining" their fur so hunters wouldn't kill them for the fur. good idea right? none of the seals lasted since the bright orange spots were a dead give aways to polar bears.

And agreed about the scaring people part. I found this online Cooking Mama thing that Peta made where you like, killed a turkey and it was all bloody and stuff. Really not neccessary. >__>

Seriously, they are retarded. I'm a vegetarian, but I've never supported them.

Yeah, those are the pictures that they would hand out to small children. Well the one they handed out to children was their mother killing a bunny or something, I forgot what the father one looked like but both pictures were pretty graphic.

Yeah, that's pretty bad. Gonna scar a kid for life.

I read this FML once where this woman was walking down the street with a fake fur coat. PETA dumped this red liquid all over her, and she was vegan. :O_o:

haha ah. I dislike it when people do that. I use to be vegetarian for about four years, but then I got sick and had to start eating meat again. However, now I make sure to buy the meat from farms where the animals are treated correctly. But even when I was a vegetarian, I never forced my decision upon others. If they asked why I would give them basic facts to why I decided to, but yeah. :XD: sorry rambling.

My response went like this: "Are humans the only animals that eat meat? Nope" to which she said "Yeah, but we're the only ones who farm them."

I said "I'm pretty sure lions would farm cows for easy food if they knew how." She never had a come back to that one :3
